IMG-Reliance Scholarship Program
In mid-September, 29 young, aspiring athletes from India arrived on the grounds of IMG Academies to begin a year of growth and training among world class coaches, facilities and programs. They are the first group of students to benefit from the IMG Reliance Scholarship Program. The program is part of a greater initiative of IMG Reliance Pvt. Ltd., a joint venture between IMG Worldwide and the India-based Reliance Industries. Within India, IMG Reliance has committed to developing, marketing and managing sports and entertainment.
Following trials in India in which IMG Academies’ coaches evaluated the talent of numerous Indian student-athletes, 29 talented youth in tennis, basketball, and soccer were ultimately selected to participate in the inaugural year of the scholarship program. Legendary tennis coach Nick Bollettieri travelled to India to conduct the initial tennis trial and later reunited with a group of students who made the trek to his Academy in Bradenton, Fla.
Youth in basketball underwent similar trials led by the IMG Basketball Academy coaching staff. For soccer, leaders decided to send the U15 India National Team to Bradenton to continue their team development.
Beyond the scholarship program, IMG Reliance will create state-of-the-art sporting academies in India. The academies in India will be modeled after IMG Academies and will look to provide world-class coaching and training facilities for Indian sportsmen and sportswomen. The required infrastructure investment will be provided by The Reliance Foundation, the charitable arm of Reliance Industries, while IMG will lend its management skills and IMG Academies-based coaching expertise.

At 7-feet tall and only 14, expectations are high for Indian basketball player
January 21st, 2011

People wonder what could go wrong; they wonder what the catch is. When you’re blessed with a unique inside-outside skill set, nimble feet, soft hands and a developing shooting touch, people instead wonder what your weaknesses are.
