College Planning and Placement
The IMG College Planning and Placement Center works with all full-time academy students including post-graduates to create an individualized roadmap to reach their goal of studying and playing their sport at the collegiate level. This work begins upon a student’s entry into high school (grade 9) and incorporates families, coaches, and university admissions and athletic staff in their efforts. The Center integrates four key components -- collegiate matching, academic readiness, athletic recruiting, and NCAA eligibility into all facets of our work. Recent graduates are attending schools such as Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Princeton, Stanford, Penn, Duke, USC, UCLA, NYU, Emory, Williams and many more. College Planning
All IMG Academies full-time students are offered a full range of support for them and their families as they navigate the college search, application process, and transition to college. Our goal is four-fold:
- Facilitate college selection while maintaining the focus on the needs and academic aspirations of each student.
- Insure that each student’s family is an integral part of this process by communicating with them on a regular basis and utilizing the technology available through our IMG Academies Naviance Family Connection system.
- Engage college admissions staff in better knowing our students by hosting them on campus through individual visits and on campus open houses.
- Work with the athletic academies to tie athletic interests and recruiting efforts together with each student’s application process.
Working in group settings (grades 9 and 10), specifically designed college planning classes grades 11 and 12), and individually with each junior and senior (grades 11 and 12), our staff involves each student in the total planning process and helps empower them to make informed choices, be self-advocates, and utilize strong organizational skills throughout their college search.
Resources such as the Naviance Family Connection (an on-line counseling tool), College Board, admission visits, and college fairs to name just a few, are invaluable in this process.
IMG Pendleton continues to send highly prepared students to colleges throughout the country and abroad. Each year over 90% of IMG Pendleton students head off to colleges and universities prepared for success in the classroom and in their athletic endeavors. Here is a link to a list of schools recent graduates have moved on to:
Athletic Recruiting
Using the expertise of each academy’s selected recruiting coordinator, and powered by the massive resources and technology through our partnership with the National Collegiate Scouting Association, our staff connects our student-athletes with thousands of universities and colleges coaches. Using our specifically designed IMG Academies Recruitment Management System, each student will work with our staff to build a web-based profile containing up to date transcripts and academic information, a resume of their athletic involvements, and for $599.00 a professionally filmed and edited game/skills video. We highly recommend that all juniors and seniors use this video feature. This profile will be easily accessible to parents so that they are involved and up-to-date. The IMG Academies Recruitment Management System provides real time tracking of the recruiting needs of over 3,500 college and university coaches and provides email links to every coach in every sport. Students work in concert with their college advisor and IMG recruiting liaison to distribute their profile to as many coaches as desired.
Our staff works with our students and parents to understand that the recruiting process starts in the 9th grade (freshman year). This is the time that they should start to market and brand themselves as a student-athlete. We want our student-athletes to have updated profiles and to get constant college exposure over a four-year period.
The graduating class of 2011 left IMG Pendleton with nearly 1.5 million dollars in freshman year scholarships. Much of this success is due to the complete integration of academics and athletics offered at IMG.
Each sport at IMG Academies has at least one recruiting expert. Our experts have rich experience in college athletics and will help guide you through the process. We ask all students and parents to take an active role in the recruiting process and we in turn will help research and identify athletic scholarships and college academic standards.
NCAA Compliance Education
Over 90% of IMG graduates go on to play their sport at the collegiate level. The Office Center works to educate each student, family, coach, and IMG staff member with the nuances of NCAA eligibility. The NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) is a made up of college and university member institutions which develop and implement rules and regulations to determine participation and protect fairness in every sport. Our staff offers educational workshops, monitors academic certification, tracks recruitment activities, and oversees amateurism issues so that students, parents, and college coaches can have full confidence that an IMG graduate will have a complete understanding of the rules in place that govern their eligibility to play at the next level.
The Center also serves as a clearinghouse and resource center for questions and concerns any student, parent, coach, or staff member may have. For more detailed information about the NCAA and their eligibility process feel free to go to: www.ncaa.org.
Academic Support
The term – student-athlete—implies correctly the importance of being well prepared academically for the challenges that collegiate life will afford. The SAT/ACT semester elective is a comprehensive preparatory course designed to prepare sophomores, juniors, and seniors for the rigors of the SAT and ACT, the two most common college admission exams. The course will be integrated into the normal school hours and alternate meeting 2 or 3 times per week in coordination with the Pendleton class schedule. The program focuses on both the SAT and ACT as each corresponding test date approaches. Classes meet in small groups of 12 or fewer students and concentrate on interaction, feedback, and discussion, as much as drills, games, and enrichment activities.
The IMG Academy tutoring team is a multifarious group of committed educators who approach their subjects and students with enthusiasm. Private tutoring is available for any high school subject in addition to SAT, ACT, or SAT II subject tests. At IMG, we accommodate students’ requests for tutoring in a timely fashion and provide tutors who not only know their subjects, but also relate well to the student.
