Coaching Experience:
Coach Tom Nutten will served as the Offensive Line Coach at IMG Academies 2010 NFL Combine Training Program. Coach Nutten comes to IMG Academies after a decade in professional football, including a Super Bowl championship with the St. Louis Rams in 2000.
In college, Nutten was a three-year starting lineman for the Western Michigan Broncos. The 6’5” 297-pounder was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in 1995. Although Nutten faced some tough challenges early on in his career – he was cut by the Bills and spent the next two seasons playing in Canada and NFL Europe, Tom eventually found his way to the St. Louis Rams in 1998.
Nutten’s love for the game and his tireless work ethic paid off in St. Louis. He became the Rams’ starting guard for the next seven seasons, including five trips to the playoffs, a Super Bowl Championship in 2000, and another trip to the NFC Championship game in 2002. During Nutten’s time on the offensive line, Rams’running back Marshall Faulk put up record-breaking numbers – gaining over 2,000 combined yards four seasons in a row, and averaging 17 touchdowns per season. The Rams offense also set the NFL record for total points over three straight seasons from 1999–2001. Nutten and his linemates were responsible for blocking for three straight NFL Most Valuable Players during that span (Faulk in 2000, Kurt
Warner in 1999 and 2001).
After retiring from football in 2005, Nutten has spent time mentoring young players and coaching for the NFL Europe. In October 2009, Coach Nutten was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame at Western Michigan. Coach Nutten brings great enthusiasm and a wealth of football experience to IMG Academies.
