September 16th, 2011
WThere was a gleam in Chris Weinke's eye last weekend as he watched the opening games of the NFL season. The former pro quarterback, now the director of the IMG Madden Football Academy in Bradenton, Fla., couldn't help but feel like a proud papa as two of his prized pupils from the lockout -- Cam Newton and Randall Cobb -- commanded America's attention during their NFL debuts.

July 27th, 2011
Minnesota Vikings first round draft pick Christian Ponder spent his time during the NFL lockout in Florida preparing to make the leap to pro football.

They gathered on the outskirts of IMG Academies' 450-acre complex and put kids from the local YMCA through various football drills. At times it was hard to tell who enjoyed themselves more. There were enough smiles and high fives to last the summer.

Players face dilemma when picking where to work out during lockout

June 1st, 2011
The Virginia Mason Athletic Center sits on an eastern bank of Lake Washington, a short drive (traffic permitting) from downtown Seattle. Home to the Seahawks since August 2008, the $60 million complex features an indoor practice facility, three outdoor fields and a weight room large enough for a royal wedding.

In previous off-seasons this is where quarterback Matt Hasselbeck and tight end John Carlson would come to train. It offers state-of-the-art equipment, manicured fields, certified trainers and physical therapists, a strength-and-conditioning program tailored to each player's needs and a cafeteria that serves healthy meals.

MAC now a badge of honor for Bellore

February 21st, 2011
Nick Bellore should head to the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis this week with no worries that playing at a so-called "mid-major" college will carry a stigma in his attempt to impress the scouts.

21 steps to the NFL

February 13th, 2011
For the past month, two dozen NFL prospects have been training at IMG Academies in Bradenton, their agents paying up to $15,000 for a six-week training regimen that includes every aspect of the 40-yard dash — from how to warmup (less stretching, more calisthenics) to how many steps it should take to cover 40 yards (21).

Speed coach Loren Seagrave teaches sprinting like an applied physics course. The classroom is a narrow strip of turf and a small practice field behind a gym on IMG's 400-acre campus.
