LAWRENCE, Kan. - Kansas men's golf announced that Prem "Ben" Samritpricha has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the team for the 2012-13 season.
A native of Bangkok, Thailand, Samritpricha has spent the last five years splitting time between the IMG Leadbetter Golf Academy and the IMG Pendleton School in Bradenton, Fla. He is currently ranked as the No. 82 recruit of the 2012 class by Golfweek.
"We are very happy to welcome Prem to the Jayhawk family," said head coach Kit Grove. "Prem is a very consistent performer that also possesses the unique ability to go low as demonstrated by his opening round 65 at the Bubba Conlee this summer and his final round 66 at the AJGA UnderArmour/Vicky Hurst Championship."
During his prep career, Samritpricha has enjoyed a lot of success, including winning the 16-19 division of the HJGT Hunters Green Junior Shootout in 2010 and registering six top-five finishes. Following his junior season, Samritpricha earned IMG Leadbetter Second Team All-America accolades.
"I believe that (Kansas) coaches Kit Grove and Brian McCants will help me achieve my goals and get me to the next level," said Samritpricha, who also cited KU's School of Business as a reason for choosing to be a Jayhawk. "I believe that KU has one of the best golf facilities you will find in the country. The campus is beautiful, and the athletic side of KU just blew me away - the athletic buildings, support, gym and every aspect of it. Also, the basketball program at KU is phenomenal. The home games are going to be incredible, and I cannot wait to be chanting `Rock Chalk Jayhawk' with the crowd!"
Kansas men's golf will begin its 2012 spring season with the Louisiana Classics March 5-6 in Lafayette, La.
