Boys & Girls Summer Development Camp

Pricing and Optimization II

Summertime provides a great opportunity for players of all abilities aged 10-18 to experience the training program of the IMG Basketball Academy. All on and off court training is designed and supervised by the same player development specialists, coaches, and performance specialists who work with our NBA and college players. Our summer training program follow the same philosophies as our full time program and players will participate in the same drill sequences and training methods as our most successful players at the highest levels of basketball.

From the very first day, players participate in a dynamic series of drill sequences designed to challenge skill levels, and give players an opportunity to develop increased fundamental ability in all areas of the game. Players are assessed for strengths and weaknesses, and short-term goals are set for improvement during their stay. All players are given an evaluation at the end of their stay by our Basketball Academy staff, which targets continued long-term improvement.

Three Week Cycle

Every week during the summer includes fundamental instruction in all aspects of the game (Such as Shooting Fundamentals and Ball Handling Basics) and with special emphasis on particular curricular areas in each week (see below). Our curriculum cycle lasts three weeks, so a player who stays for three weeks or more during the summer receives basic fundamental and advanced training in all facets of the game. Players should join us for a full three week cycle that will provide them with comprehensive training across the instructional curriculum.

Areas of Emphasis

Week A (Handle to Score): Players will focus on their ability to handle the ball in many different game situations such as coming off ball screens, pushing the ball in transition, efficient use of the dribble in the half court and keeping the dribble alive under pressure. Also, players will be trained in executing and understanding the usage of changes of direction, speed and status. Players will also be coached on basic defensive principles of how to contain and control an offensive player that is on the dribble.

Week B (Creating off the Catch): Players will focus on their ability to attack pressure, make decisions, and create (for themselves and their teammates) while being ball strong before they have dribbled the ball. This includes understanding and executing jabs and fakes, different ways to get open without a screen and using their body appropriately both on the perimeter and in post. Also, players will be coached on defensive basics of how to disrupt, distract, and control an offensive player on the catch.

Week C (Being a Threat without the Ball): Players will focus on spacing the floor and taking advantage of that space, flashing into open areas and reading screens in game situations. Types of screens will be covered from the perspective of the cutter and the screener. Players will be taught to recognize, understand and capitalize on every opportunity to score and produce positive plays on the floor without the ball in their hands. Making plays and understanding basic off ball defensive strategies will also be covered.
